The European Business Chamber in Trinidad and Tobago (EUROCHAMTT) and the Cocoa Research Centre, UWI (CRC) are pleased to announce a new initiative and Calls for Expressions of Interest: Building an EU-TT Sustainable Investment Model for the Cocoa Industry in Trinidad and Tobago. The Calls for Expressions of Interest (to Investors and to Estate Owners) follow a webinar held on 25 March 2026 that was organized with the support of the European Cocoa Association (ECA).

The initiative aims to advance the rehabilitation of 45,000 hectares of abandoned cocoa lands in Trinidad and Tobago through sustainable investment partnerships — ultimately increasing the production levels and yields of cocoa estates across the country and creating value and benefits for both investors and estate owners

At its heart is a tree-to-bar supply chain model: an approach that connects local cocoa estates with EU markets and investors, leveraging the strengths of each partner to build a novel, sustainable value chain. The model is designed to even out risks across the supply chain, improve efficiency, attract investment, and deliver the traceable, food-safe, environmentally responsible chocolate that consumers increasingly demand.

Trinidad and Tobago brings globally renowned fine-flavour Trinitario cacao, estates that can be rehabilitated and the scientific capacity of the CRC. The EU brings a large and discerning chocolate market, world-leading culinary and research capability, and a growing appetite for sustainable, ethically sourced products. This initiative is about bringing those strengths together across the ocean.
