Celebrating Leadership in Sustainability
On 15 May 2026, the European Business Chamber in Trinidad and Tobago (EUROCHAMTT) hosted its Sustainability Champion Awards 2026 at Carmel Valley Estate, Maraval, bringing together business leaders, sustainability practitioners, government representatives, development partners, sponsors, and members of the wider business community to celebrate excellence in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. The event showcased the growing commitment of Trinidad and Tobago’s private sector to sustainable business practices and responsible growth.

Distinguished Opening and Keynote Presentations
The event commenced with opening remarks from Her Excellency Cécile Tassin-Pelzer, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Trinidad and Tobago, alongside Ms. Miosotis Rivas Peña, Acting Resident Coordinator, United Nations in Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten. Their presentations highlighted the importance of partnerships, innovation, and private sector leadership in advancing sustainable development goals across the Caribbean.
The keynote address was delivered by Jelmer de Winter, Country Manager Trinidad and Regional Uncrewed Solutions Manager Americas at FUGRO. His presentation explored the role of technology, innovation, and data-driven solutions in supporting environmental stewardship, operational efficiency, and sustainable development within the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Sustainability Champions 2026
Following an independent evaluation process, two organisations were selected as the 2026 Sustainability Champions for demonstrating outstanding commitment to ESG excellence. Award presentations were chaired by EUROCHAMTT Vice President Gonçalo Pinto Mendes.

SUSTAINABILITY TROPHY Designed by Clive Prevatt
This year’s trophies by designer Clive Prevatt feature rechargeable LED bulbs, repurposed vases, a galvanized pipe frame and a salvaged wood base. The bulbs were not widely available even a year ago, highlighting the advances in technology related to electrification and a new energy future. The wooden base is part of a floor joist salvaged from a house demolished in Maraval 17 years ago that has now been upcycled as part of a trophy awarding sustainability.

Large Company Category — United Independent Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (UNIPET)
UNIPET was recognised for its strategic transformation toward a more sustainable energy future. The company has implemented renewable energy initiatives, EV charging infrastructure, fleet electrification, energy-efficiency upgrades, and a structured sustainability governance framework. It is also developing comprehensive emissions reporting systems and plans to publish its first Sustainability Report in 2026.
Small and Medium Enterprise Category — Renewable Power Caribbean Limited (RPCL)
RPCL secured the SME Sustainability Champion title for the second consecutive year. The company was recognised for delivering renewable energy solutions across the Caribbean, driving avoided carbon emissions through client installations, promoting educational outreach, strengthening governance through induction into the UN Global Compact, and demonstrating measurable environmental impact through its own operations.
